FAQs

Q: What exactly is health coaching?

A: According to the National Board of Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC): “Health and wellness coaches work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to develop and achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Coaches support clients in mobilizing internal strengths and external resources, and in developing self-management strategies for making sustainable, healthy lifestyle, behavior changes.”

A health coach is someone who helps you to identify small diet and lifestyle changes that you can make to reach your health goals, whatever they may be (lose weight, reduce stress, gain energy, etc).  Health coaches are both listeners and advice-givers; they guide clients through the world of contradictory nutrition information and provide recommendations based on the individual's goals, habits, and body.

Q: What is functional medicine?

A: Functional Medicine is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach to healthcare that looks beyond symptom resolution to identify why illness occurs and address those root causes to restore health. While conventional medicine focuses on using medication to reduce symptoms, Functional Medicine empowers patients and practitioners to work together to resolve the complex underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness through diet and lifestyle change.

Q: What types of clients do you work with?

A:  I specialize in helping individuals looking to accomplish any or all of the following – weight loss, increasing energy levels, curbing cravings and hunger, reducing stress, decreasing intake of processed foods and living a more whole & balanced life.

Q: Can you tell me more about your health coaching certifications?

A: As a Health Coach, I help clients master healthy habits that serve them for life and to address any underlying issues that may be preventing them from following through with their goals. I have a health coach certification through the Health Coach Institute and it is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF), the only globally recognized, independent credentialing program for coach practitioners, via their CCE program (Continuing Coach Education). I am currently working on becoming a functional medicine health coach through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy and will qualify to become board certified.

Q: Do I have to have a serious health issue or illness to benefit from a health coach?

A: No! I work with many clients who have no major issues but simply want to learn how to eat healthier and incorporate more vegetables into their diets. I also work with clients who feel good as is, but want to find ways to feel even better!

Q: Do you only work with clients in Marquette, MI?

A: Nope! I offer health coaching through phone calls, FaceTime, or Zoom. Virtual health coaching is an amazing option!

Q: Can you health coach a couple or group of people?

A: Yes! I can work with a family, a couple, or a group of people. Reach out and we can discuss details! This goes for in-person and virtual coaching.

Q: How do I know if health coaching is right for me?

A: Let's talk! I offer a complimentary consultation where we can discuss how we can work together. This is an opportunity to discover if health coaching is what you are looking for.
